Rick Thiemke is a passionate follower of Jesus Christ. He came to faith as a teenager and inspired his family to embrace the same journey. This experience ignited his desire to share God’s love through Jesus with others.

Throughout his ministry, Rick has served in various roles at large churches, focusing on youth, college, and administration. He particularly cherishes his time leading a church in Yorkville, Illinois, where he guided a revitalization effort. Starting with just 18 members, the church grew significantly, with 67% of the congregation coming to faith during his 11 years there.

In May 2011, Rick took on the role of Lead Pastor at Via Church in Mesa, Arizona. This vibrant church is dedicated to reflecting the hope of Christ and is passionate about sharing the Good News in Mesa, Greater Phoenix, and beyond. They value being Bible-based, authentic, compassionate, intergenerational, and showing compassion by serving others.

Rick has a deep heart for God’s mission both locally and around the world. He has had the honor of leading teams and ministering in countries like Costa Rica, Russia/Siberia, Ukraine, Romania, Philippines, Mexico, Uganda, Peru, Nicaragua, Malaysia, South Africa, Cuba, India, Albania, Austria, Canada, Thailand, Columbia and many U.S. destinations. His experiences have broadened his understanding of God’s work across cultures.

Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Rick enjoys spending time on the lakes near Mesa, especially boating and waterskiing. He has also served as President of the Missional Training Center, a seminary in Phoenix accredited by Calvin Theological Seminary. Currently, he is on the Board of the Surge Network, a movement of local churches dedicated to equipping and activating God’s people in Arizona. Additionally, he has been involved with the Assemblies of God World Missions Board, supporting over 2,700 missionaries worldwide.

Rick holds a Bachelor of Science in Pastoral Studies from North Central University and a Master’s in Missional Theology from Covenant Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Susan, reside in Mesa, Arizona, and are proud parents of two adult children and their spouses and one grandchild.
